1950s The Seven Gods of Luck by Sanzo Wada, pair of Japanese Woodblock Prints

Sale price$175.00

Set is framed and matted with museum glass. This set of prints titled "The Seven Gods of Good Luck" are an eclectic group of ancient deities from Japan, India and China. The print with the 4 images shows Benten (goddess of arts & knowledge), Daikokuten (god of wealth & prosperity), Ebisu (god of fishing, shipping & commerce) and Fukurokuju (god of wealth, happiness & longevity). The print with the 3 deities has Bishamonten (god of warriors & defense against evil), Hotei (god of happiness & abundance) and Jurojin (god of wisdom). Each of the 7 gods of good fortune are presented with the symbols associated with them. Sanzo Wada’s seal and signature can be seen in the lower corners of images. The seals of the publisher (Kyoto Hanga-in) and printer are in lower margins. See photo of Kyoto Hanga-in’s 1952 catalogue with these prints lis...
